Medicare Advantage plans are not included in the Biden Administration’s “demonstration project,” which effectively bribes insurers to not raise their out-of-pocket costs for drug coverage.
Drug deductibles in Medicare Advantage plans will be 167% higher in 2025 on average than 2024 plans, according to an analysis by the investment bank Stephens, which noted that increasing drug deductibles “appears to be a key strategy to offset margin pressures in 2025.” Roughly two-thirds of all 34 million Medicare Advantage enrollees are in plans where the drug deductibles will increase by at least $200 next year, maxing out at $595, according to an analysis from the investment bank Jefferies.
